REVIEW – Elegant Angkor Resort and Spa in Siem Reap Cambodia

We stayed at the Elegant Angkor Resort and Spa when we came to explore the temples of Angkor in Siem Reap. Read our review here.

This new modern resort is hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Siem Reap town centre, secluded in a beautiful lush village. The customer service is exceptional, at every step they went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and relaxing.

It’s a peaceful place for families to unwind after a long day exploring the temples and I would definitely recommend.

Personal tuktuk ride into town

Location

This is a brand new resort in Siem Reap, which only opened in mid-2016 and even has its own road, Elegant Road. It’s just a 10 minute drive from Siem Reap town centre.

There’s not much around in the way of sightseeing or restaurants outside the resort but they do offer a free tuk tuk into town whenever you like which is really helpful.

If you want somewhere to relax and unwind, this is definitely the perfect place. You are in the heart of a peaceful, green Cambodian village and it is bliss.

Pick up and check in

The resort offers a free pick up service from the airport at Siem Reap which is a short 20 minute drive away. Our driver was there on time, was really friendly and helpful.

The check in was super easy which is one of the things I loved about Elegant Resort. They greeted us with warm towels to freshen up and took our passports to make copies and we were checked in with no additional paperwork and the whole process was just effortless.

The general manager gave us a quick tour of the resort, the facilities (spa, gym, restaurant, pool) and our room. We even managed to book our excursions right in our room and she arranged everything instantly with no paperwork to sign or carry around, perfect when you have kids!

Comfortable rooms with garden access

We were welcomed in our executive suite with a bowl of fruits and drinking water. We were so impressed at how large the room was, it’s triple the size of most hotel rooms. The décor is elegant and classic, the bed is huge bed which is perfect when you have a baby sharing and a couch for relaxing. There’s also a large stone bathtub at the foot of the room overlooking the garden which we didn’t have time to sample but am sure would have been a wonderful place to soak and unwind.

Very large comfortable bed – perfect if you have little ones sharing

Sofa with coffee table

Our room had lots of wardrobe space, a mini fridge, a safe, air-con, an iron and board, in room tea/coffee maker, TV and a desk. Every morning we were given complimentary bottles of water in the room.

The bed was really comfortable and aside from the ensuite shower room, there are two basins in the bedroom beside the bathtub with soap, showercap and hand towels.

There’s also free Wifi which we never had any problems with, it was fast enough for us all to be on tablets and phones at once.

Access to garden

Amenities

Our suite was right outside the pool which is well looked after and great for families. It’s lit beautifully at night, so when the sun’s setting it’s the perfect place to spend an evening.

The spa offers a whole range of treatments, from massages, scrubs to manicures. I opted for the Swedish massage which was wonderful. The therapist welcomed me with warm tea before taking me into the therapy room was tranquil with relaxing music and the massage was excellent.

There is a small fitness centre on site which had two running machines and elliptical machines. We were told they were in the process of acquiring weight training machines and free weights which will give guests more options for a workout. But for me the running machine was perfect, it was high spec and had enough functionality to have a great workout.

Restaurants

There is only one restaurant on site but it offers a varied selection from international options to traditional Kmer dishes. Its child friendly, too, there’s lots of non-spicy options from sandwiches to pizza’s and pasta.

Part of the breakfast selection

My favourite – french toast with honey and syrup

The breakfast selection is plentiful. We loved getting the French toast which comes with syrup and honey and the pancakes were really good too. There’s a good selection of salads, fruits, cereals, juices and some cheese too. What I really loved was getting a warm bread basket as soon we sat down, with warm croissants to graze on with a nice cup of coffee.

The restaurant is elegantly decorated and has a great view of the pool.

Child friendly

The Elegant resort is perfect for families who don’t want to be in the thick of it and would prefer to spend a more relaxing time away from crowds and busy streets.

Although there’s no splashing pool for toddlers or small children, kids can still have a great time in the pool under supervision. Our two year old loved splashing about in the water and doing lots of dives.

Swimming pool

The size of the rooms are perfect for families, there’s plenty of space for kids to run about, or claim a corner as there’s for play. Having a sofa is great for downtime, playing games or watching films. The garden space is perfect for kids wanting to stretch their legs although we didn’t use it much because of the mosquitoes. Having said that, the resort are great at spraying repellents around the grounds so it wasn’t too much of a problem.

Exceptional Service from staff

Above everything, what made our stay at Elegant Resort has got to be the incredibly friendly and professional service from all members of staff, from the driver to the general manager. They were quick to arrange trips, spa bookings, answer any questions and fixed a problem we were having with the bath plug straight away.

Driving through Siem Reap

Final thoughts

We initially booked for two nights at Elegant and ended up staying three as wanted to see more of Siem Reap in the comfort of Elegant Resort. The only downside is the location as it’s just outside of town and therefore you are limited in what you can do on foot. But that being said, it’s only a short tuktuk ride which is hassle free and it’s quite nice to get a glimpse of daily life in Cambodia.

We really enjoyed our stay here, felt well taken care of and would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Siem Reap.
